Newb FAIL: WBW71

by Rain on March 17, 2011

I thought I would share my “Rhones not for Rhone” experience of WBW. That can’t happen because I didn’t have one. Well I did but……

Scene: Got home from work and ordered my take out Thai food no cooking last night sorry. I took out my camera and my wine. I made sure my glasses were washed and I started taking pictures. I bought a bottle early in the week. It was actually pretty hard to find a Rhone style white not from France. Maybe it was just where I was but I didn’t find much. I finally found a 100% Roussanne from Cali that looked fun. Took it and some other bottles in a box. Got home and put in the fridge.

I didn’t really think about it until last night. When I started taking pictures I was excited. It was a screwcap. I like those they are easy. I set up my glass and went to pour my wine. Hmmmm that’s weird. The cap was already open. Did I open it and forget? It can happen, I have my moments of space-yness not a word-I don’t care.  But I don’t remember twisting that cap. I pour it and smell. It smells weird. I am scared.

Some of you may have called it quits right then. I had to be sure. So yes I may have stuck my tongue in the glass to see if I was crazy. Help Me Howard it was nasty! No one drink the wine! The wine is bad! Sooo no WBW71 for me. Someone must have opened it and left it on the counter. Who would do that? Waste a perfectly good bottle of wine.

My night wasn’t all bad. I had bought a bottle from Rhone a 50/50 Grenache Blanc and Viognier. Viognier seems to be a more popular white grape. I enjoyed that and some Vampire Diaries. Yes I am one of those people, don’t judge!

So that is my sad story of a failed wbw. I think I will try a redo and post later this month.
